Sony Ericsson Zylo, Spiro Announced

Sony Ericsson has announced the addition of two new phones to its portfolio. Awkwardly named Zylo and Spiro, these phones have been categorized as "Walkman" devices.

Let us take a look at both these devices and check what they have in store for you, the potential buyer.

Zylo

The Zylo, as mentioned earlier in this article, happens to be a Walkman music player and is among the first mobile phones to feature FLAC audio playback support. This is apart from the normal Walkman features you'd see on a Sony Ericsson music phone. We're talking about features like TrackID and the PlayNow music store. Apart from music, the Zylo concentrates on another aspect as well - Social Networking. The phone, like many in the market, is designed keeping in mind various social networks. It has easy access to both Facebook and Twitter. Users can also share their photos to Flickr and Picasa, or upload videos to YouTube directly from the phone.

The Zylo comes equipped with a decent 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth support and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support. The display is quite large for a non touch device at over 2.6-inches. The resolution thought might be a tad low at 320 x 240 pixels. The phone supports up to 16GB of microSD memory cards apart from the 260MB internal memory.

Sony Ericsson expects the Zylo to be available in select markets in the third quarter of 2010, and the phone will be available in Jazz Black, Chacha Silver, and Swing Pink. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Spiro

The Spiro is positioned below the Zylo and comes with lesser features. This Walkman branded phone features a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth support and the Obigo Q7 web browser. At 2.2 inches, the screen is way smaller than that of the Zylo. The resolution, however, remains the same. Like the Zylo, the Spiro too supports memory expansion and can take microSD cards up to 16GB in size.

The Spiro will be available in Contrast Black, Sunset Pink, Spring Green, and Stealth Black and is expected to be land on retail shelves in select markets in the third quarter of 2010. Pricing details for the Spiro too have been kept under the wraps.
