దేశ రాజధాని నగరం న్యూఢిల్లీ ఆతిథ్య మిస్తోన్న ప్రతిష్టాత్మక కామన్వెల్త్ గేమ్స్ ఆరంభ వేడుకల కోసం ఆస్కార్ అవార్డు గ్రహీత ఎ.ఆర్. రెహమాన్ ప్రత్యేకంగా రూపొందించిన థీమ్‌సాంగ్‌లో కొన్ని మార్పులు చోటు చేసుకోనున్నాయి.

రెహమాన్ రూపొందించిన థీమ్‌సాంగ్‌లో అంత క్రేజ్‌ లేదని ఆరోపణలు వెలువెత్తినప్పటికీ.. కామన్వెల్త్ క్రీడల థీమ్ సాంగ్‌ను రీ కంపోజ్ చేసే ఉద్దేశ్యం లేదని రెహమాన్ తేల్చి చెప్పేశాడు.

ఇంకా 'ఇండియా బులా లియా' అనే పాట ప్రజల అంచనాలను అందుకోవడంలో విఫలమైందని, నిర్వాహక కమిటీ ఎగ్జిక్యూటివ్ బోర్డ్ మెంబర్ వీకే మల్హోత్రా సహా పలువురు ఈ పాటపై పెదవి విరిచిన సంగతి తెలిసిందే.

ఈ నేపథ్యంలో ఫుట్‌బాల్ ప్రపంచకప్‌లో ప్రాచుర్యం పొందిన షకీరా పాట 'వాకా.. వాకా', 'చక్‌దే ఇండియా' సినిమాలోని టైటిల్ సాంగ్‌లా స్ఫూర్తిదాయకంగా ఉంటే బాగుంటుందనే అభిప్రాయాలు రావడంతో పాటలో కొన్ని మార్పులు చేసినట్లు తెలిసింది.

ఈ విషయమై ఈ పాటను రచించిన ప్రసూన్ జోషి స్పందిస్తూ.. 'సాంగ్‌ను కుదించడంతోపాటు కొన్ని మార్పులు చేశారు. వచ్చేవారంలో విడుదలయ్యే ఈ కొత్త వీడియోలో దీన్ని గమనించవచ్చునని వెల్లడించారు.

పాకిస్థాన్ మరోమారు సైనిక పాలనలోకి వెళ్లే అవకాశాలు ఉన్నట్టు వస్తున్న మీడియా ఊహాగానాలను ఆ దేశ ప్రధానమంత్రి యూసుఫ్ రజా గిలానీ కొట్టిపారేశారు. ప్రస్తుతం దేశంలో ప్రజాస్వామ్య ప్రభుత్వం ఉందని, అందువల్ల సైనిక తిరుగుబాటు వచ్చేందుకు అవకాశమే లేదని ఆయన నొక్కివక్కాణిస్తున్నారు.

ఇస్లామాబాద్‌లో ఆయన మీడియాతో మాట్లాడుతూ దేశంలోని ప్రజస్వామ్య ప్రభుత్వానికి కీలక సమయాల్లోనే సైనిక సహకారం అవసరమన్నారు. ప్రస్తుతం వరద సాయంలో సైనిక సాయాన్ని తప్పనిసరన్నారు.

అదేసమయంలో దేశంలో మళ్లీ సైనిక పాలన రాబోతుందని వస్తున్న వార్తలపై వ్యాఖ్యానించడం సమయాన్ని వృధా చేసుకోవడమేనన్నారు. దేశ రక్షణ శాఖ, ప్రజాస్వామ్య ప్రభుత్వాలు రెండు వేర్వేరు మార్గాల్లో పయనించడం లేదని గిలానీ స్పష్టం చేశారు.

‘26/11’ తరహాలో మరోసారి జరిగితే భారత్-పాకిస్థాన్‌ల మధ్య పూర్తిస్థాయి యుద్ధానికి దారితీసే ప్రమాదం ఉందని వాషింగ్టన్‌కు చెందిన ప్రముఖ పరిశోధన సంస్థ వెల్లడించింది. ముంబయి తరహా దాడులు పునరావృతం కాకుండా అరికట్టడం అమెరికా విదేశాంగ విధానానికి అతిపెద్ద సవాల్ అని ఆ సంస్థ తమ నివేదికలో పేర్కొంది.

పీటర్ బెర్జన్, బ్రూస్ హోఫ్‌మన్ ఆధ్వర్యంలో తయారైన ‘ఉగ్రవాద ముప్పుపై అంచనా’ అనే నివేదికలో ముంబయి దాడుల తరహా మరో దాడి జరిగిన పక్షంలో అది భారత ప్రభుత్వంపై విపరీతమైన ఒత్తిడి తెచ్చి తీవ్ర చర్యకు కారణం కావచ్చని ఆ పరిశోధన సంస్థ తెలిపింది.

ఇంకా వందలాది ప్రాణాలను బలిగొన్న 26/11 దాడులు పునరావృతం కాకుండా చూడటమే బైపార్టిషన్ పాలసీ సెంటర్‌కు చెందిన జాతీయ భద్రతా సన్నాహక విభాగం తమ 42 పేజీల నివేదికలో పేర్కొంది.

శనివారం రంజాన్ పండుగ సందర్భంగా ఆయన పాకిస్తాన్‌లోని పలు ప్రాంతాలను సందర్శించారు. వరద తాకిడితో నిరాశ్రయులైన ప్రజలను పరామర్శించారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా ఆయన స్వీట్లు, దుస్తులు, బహుమతులను పంచిపెట్టారు.

ప్రభుత్వం పలు రంగాల్లో పూర్తిగా విఫలమవడాన్ని ప్రజాస్వామ్యం విఫలమైనట్లుగా అభివర్ణించడం తగదని ఆయన అన్నారు. అయితే వరద బాధితులకు సత్వర సహాయక చర్యలు చేపట్టి ఆదుకోవడంలో ప్రభుత్వం ఘోరంగా విఫలమైందిన్నారు.

ఆప్ఘన్ సరిహద్దులకు డ్రగ్స్ తరలిస్తున్న బ్రిటన్ సైనికులు?

ఆఫ్ఘనిస్థాన్‌లో పనిచేస్తున్న బ్రిటీష్ బలగాలు కొత్త చిక్కుల్లో పడ్డాయి. మాదక ద్రవ్యాలను దేశం దాటిస్తున్నారంటూ ఆరోపణలు ఎదుర్కుంటున్నారు. ఆఫ్ఘనిస్థాన్‌లోని మిలిటెంట్ల ఏరివేతలో సహాయం అందిస్తున్న బ్రిటీష్ సైనిక బలగాలు హెరాయిన్‌ను ఆఫ్ఘనిస్థాన్ సరిహద్దులు దాటిస్తున్నారనే ఆరోపణల నేపథ్యంలో బ్రిటీష్ మిలటరీ పోలీసులు వారిని విచారిస్తున్నట్లు రక్షణ శాఖ మంత్రిత్వ వర్గాలు వెల్లడించాయి.

ఈ ఆరోపణలపై విచారణ ప్రారంభించామని అధికారులు తెలిపారు. సదరు మిలటరీ అధికారుల సైనిక విమానాల ద్వారా మాదక ద్రవ్యాలను తరలించి దేశం దాటిస్తున్నారని, ముఖ్యంగా విమానాశ్రయాలలో ఉన్న బలగాలు, క్యాంప్ బేసిన్, కాందహార్‌లో ఉన్న సైనికులు ఈ ఆరోపణలు ఎదుర్కుంటున్న నేపథ్యంలో దీనిపై సమగ్ర విచారణకు ఈ ప్రాంతాలలోని సైనికులను మిలటరీ అధికారులు విచారిస్తున్నారు.

ఈ విచారణలో భాగంగా నిందితులను గుర్తించేందుకు శిక్షణ ఇచ్చిన శునకాలను రంగంలోకి దింపామని, ఇటువంటి ఆరోపణలపై తాము అప్రమత్తంగా ఉన్నామని రక్షణ శాఖ మంత్రివర్గ ప్రతినిధి ఒకరు తెలిపారు. ఒకవేళ ఈ ఆరోపణలు కనుక నిజమైతే అటువంటి వారిపై కఠిన చర్యలు తీసుకుంటామని ఆయన తెలిపారు.

ఖైదీలకు కరెంట్ షాక్ ఇచ్చి గోళ్లు పీకుతున్నారు: ఆమ్నెస్టీ

ఇరాక్ జైళ్లలో విచారణకు నోచుకోని 30 వేల మంది ఖైదీలు చిత్రహింసలకు గురవుతున్నారని అంతర్జాతీయ మానవహక్కుల సంస్థ ఆమ్నెస్టీ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ తన నివేదికలో తెలిపింది. ఖైదీలను శారీరకంగా, మానసికంగా చిత్రహింసలు పెడుతున్నారని పేర్కొంది.

గత నెలలో యుద్ధ విధుల్లో ఉన్న అమెరికా సైనికుల ఉపసంహరణ పూర్తయిన నేపథ్యంలో బందీలుగా ఉన్న ఖైదీలను ఇరాక్‌కు అప్పగించినట్లు ఆమ్నెస్టీ తెలిపింది. ఈ ఖైదీలకు ఎలాంటి విచారణ లేకుండా, కనీసం న్యాయవాదులను కూడా అందుబాటులో లేకుండా ఉంచినట్లు ఆమ్నెస్టీ తన నివేదికలో వెల్లడించింది. వీరి కోసం ప్రత్యేకంగా రహస్య జైళ్లను ఉపయోగించినట్లు ఆ సంస్థ ఆరోపించింది.

అంతే కాకుండా.. బందీలను క్రూరంగా విద్యుత్‌తీగలతో కొట్టడం, కరెంట్ షాక్‌ పెట్టడం, వేళ్ళు తొలగించడం, గోళ్ళు పీకడం వంటి చిత్రహింసలకు గురిచేసినట్లు ఆ నివేదిక విమర్శించింది. ఫలితంగా కొందరు ఖైదీలు జైళ్లలోనే ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోతున్నారని ఆమ్నెస్టీ ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేసింది. ఇలా మరిణించిన వారిని సాధారణ మరణంగా చిత్రీకరిస్తున్నారని ఆరోపించింది.

ఖైదీల హక్కులను కాలరాస్తున్న ఇరాకీ దళాలే ఇందుకు బాధ్యత వహించాలని ఆమ్నెస్టీ ఆసియా, ఆఫ్రికా డైరెక్టర్ మాల్కం స్మార్డ్ డిమాండ్ చేశారు. చట్ట విరుద్ధంగా యువకులను అదుపులోకి తీసుకున్న కేసులే ఎక్కువయ్యాయని ఆయన పేర్కొన్నారు.

ఒబామాను తిడుతూ ఈ-మెయిల్ పంపిన యువకుడు

బ్రిటన్‌కు చెందిన ఓ యువకుడు అమెరికా అధ్యక్షుడు బరాక్ ఒబామాను అవమానపరచే విధంగా అసభ్య పదజాలాన్ని ఉపయోగిస్తూ శ్వేత సౌధాని(వైట్ హౌస్)కి ఓ ఈ మెయిల్‌ను పంపించాడు. దీనిపై విచారణ జరిపిన పోలీసులు ఆ యువకుడిని అమెరికా నుంచి బహిష్కరిస్తూ జీవితకాల నిషేధం విధించారు.

సెప్టెంబర్ 11 దాడులకు నిరసనగా పంపిన తన ద్వేషపూరిత ఈ-మెయిల్‌లో ఒబామాను అవమానించే విధంగా ఆ యువకుడు పంపాడు. ఈ కేసును దర్యాప్తు చేసిన ఎఫ్‌‌బీఐ పోలీసులు ఈ-మెయిల్ పంపిన యువకుడిని బ్రిటన్‌కు చెందిన లూకే ఏంజిల్(17)గా గుర్తించిన పోలీసులు ఆ యువకుడిని అమెరికాలో ప్రవేశించకుండా తనపై జీవితకాల నిషేధాన్ని విధిస్తున్నట్లు తెలిపారు.

ఏమైనప్పటికీ ఆ కాలేజి కుర్రాడు మాత్రం తాను చేసిన పనికి క్షమాపణలు చెప్పలేదు. పైపెచ్చు ఇటువంటివి అస్సలు లెక్క చేయనని కొట్టి పారేశాడు. "పోలీసులు నన్ను చుట్టుముట్టి, నా ఫోటో తీసుకుకొని, నన్ను అమెరికా నుంచి బహిష్కరిస్తున్నట్లు చెప్పారు. నేను దీనిని లెక్కచేయను, కానీ నా తల్లిదండ్రులు మాత్రం ఈ విషయంపై సంతోషంగా లేరు" అని లూకే అన్నాడు. అయితే పోలీసులు మాత్రం ఆ కుర్రాడిపై ఎటువంటి క్రిమినల్ కేసును నమోదు చేయలేదు.

ఆస్ట్రేలియా తొలి మహిళా ప్రధానిగా గిల్లార్డ్‌ ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం

ప్రపంచంలో ప్రతి ఆరు సెకన్లకు ఓ శిశువు మృత్యువాత పడుతున్నట్టు ఐక్యరాజ్య సమితి అభిప్రాయపడింది. ఈ మృతులకు ప్రధాన కారణం పోషకాహార లోపమేనని సమితి ఆహార వ్యవసాయ సంస్థ (ఎఫ్ఏఓ) ప్రధాన కార్యదర్శి జాక్వెస్ డయాఫ్ అభిప్రాయపడ్డారు.

ఆప్ఘనిస్థాన్‌లో అమెరికా జరుపుతున్న యుద్ధాన్ని, పవిత్ర ఖురాన్‌కు వ్యతిరేకంగా అమెరికా చేస్తున్న ద్రోహాన్ని జర్ధారీ ప్రోత్సహించడంతో పాటు మద్దతిస్తున్నారని జవహరి ఆ లేఖలో వెల్లడించాడు.

ఇంకా "జర్ధారీ ఓ దొంగ అధ్యక్షుడు" అని జవహరి ఆక్రోశం వెల్లగక్కాడు. జర్దారీ చర్యల పట్ల పాకిస్థాన్ ప్రజలు మౌనం వహించడం ద్వారానే అధ్యక్షుడి వ్యతిరేక చర్యలు పెచ్చరిల్లిపోతున్నాయని జవహరి ఆ లేఖలో తెలిపారు.

Rahman''s Commonwealth theme song tweaked

New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) ''India bula liya'', the Commonwealth theme song, composed by Oscar-winner A R Rahman, has been tweaked and turned into a "peppy sports anthem". The original version of the song got a lukewarm response from the audience and was openly criticised by CWG Organising Committee''s executive board member V K Malhotra for "falling short of expectations".

"The song has now been turned into a sports anthem. It has been pepped up with more beats and it will be a tighter version of the original," said lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

Joshi said that the "premature" criticism that came Rahman''s way after the song was launched last month is not the reason behind the change. "Rahman is a musician who believes in constantly improving his product.

That''s the way he works. He does it all the time with his music in films.

In creative work there is always scope for improvement," Joshi added. The new song will be accompanied by a video which will star some of India''s best known sports persons and showcase the country''s achievements in the field of sports, the National-award-winning lyricist said.

The ''Jai ho'' hitmaker, who is currently in Los Angeles, had reportedly turned down a request by Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of the Games organising committee, to change the song.

For 77- year old AD Nagpal, who was instrumental in increasing the payout for 50 million workers by about Rs 1,700 crore this year, it's still not time to rest.

In the midst of receiving congratulatory calls, Nagpal told The Indian Express that there were many pending issues that require his attention as a trustee of the Employee Provident Fund. It was Nagpal, an EPFO trustee since 1997, who detected the discrepancy in the EPFO accounts and insisted that the organisation re-examine its books since its inception 58 years back in 1952.

He has been closely associated with the Socialist movement and Jai Prakash Narayan. As secretary of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Nagpal juggles his time between Chandigarh where he resides and Delhi where he has his office. Despite this long association, it took him a good three years and elaborate calculations to convince the labour ministry and the EPFO of the error. "I alerted the ministry first in January 2007, but no one believed me. Moreover, since the EPFO accounts are tabled in Parliament, no one was keen to reopen them," Nagpal told The Indian Express a day after the CBT accepted his calculation.

The discrepancy was because the EPFO had debited Rs 2,481 crore in the interest suspense account way back in 1998, but did not credit it into individual accounts. Assisted by experts, he carefully reconstructed the EPFO's accounts beginning 1993-94. Simultaneously, the Hind Mazdoor Sabha wrote to the then labour minister Oscar Fernandes.

"We didn't get a reply, but we kept pursuing the issue with the ministry," he recounts. Finally, this year, the EPFO decided to reopen its accounts and after summoning records from across the country they accepted the calculations. The net result was the discovery of surplus funds of Rs 1,731.57 crore in the suspense account as against the stated Rs 158 crore.

"It has taken the EPFO a long time but this is worth the effort. I was a bit worried till yesterday but now I am relaxed," said a visibly pleased Nagpal. "Initially, I was told that the interest rate would be hiked by 0.5 per cent, but later the minister decided that since there was enough surplus, the EPFO can go in for a 1 per cent hike," he said.

Temple reflects desire for good governance

A whole new generation of young India has emerged ever since the demolition of the Babri structure in Ayodhya more than 18 years ago. This two decade-long intervening period witnessed India's renaissance and its emergence as a key global player.

The period also saw a change in the nation's mood. From being a nation of angry and despondent people, our disposition has become decidedly confident and positive. People across all castes and communities are now craving for progress and development. At the core of the Ayodhya-Babri issue is not a legal or historical question. Not a political question in the least.

But it has been a source of communal discord for many years. In tune with the nation's upbeat mood, the issue needs to be settled amicably by the communities. This is particularly crucial at a time when the spectre of separatism is raising its ugly head again in Kashmir and our inimical neighbours are eager to accentuate communal discord in the country.

In most parts of the country, Hindus and Muslims live together in neighbourhoods and in perfect harmony. They even celebrate many religious festivals together. For Hindus, Ayodhya is sacred and the birthplace of Lord Ram. Lord Ram is a symbol of good governance and building a Ram temple is actually reinforcing the nation's desire for good governance.

I believe that ordinary, progress-minded Muslims will be willing to forget the acrimonious past and cooperate in a spirit of brotherhood if a proper atmosphere is created for discussions. The real problem is with the pseudo-secular political parties chasing minority votebanks that want to stoke communal trouble to shore up their politics.
The world looks at India today with much greater respect and awe than ever before.

We would be sending a very positive message to the world if both the communities resolve this dispute amicably. The initiative of the Allahabad High Court ahead of next week's judgment over the land title to arrive at an amicable out-of-court settlement is welcome . One hopes that this effort helps resolve the vexed issue amicably.

Samsung Releases Tablet PC

Samsung Electronics launched its Galaxy Tab tablet computer in the U.S. Thursday with several media partnerships that will allow customers to rent or purchase TV shows and films on the device.

The tablet, a 7-inch device based on the latest version of Google Inc.'s Android software, will be sold by Verizon Wireless, AT&T Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA.

The company didn't release details on availability and pricing, saying that it would be up to its carrier partners to disclose those details. It plans to offer a WiFi-only version of the tablet, though it did not say when that model would be available.

Verizon said it would launch the tablet "in the coming weeks." AT&T said it would sell the device in "the coming months," with pricing details announced closer to the launch date.

Samsung said its initial content partners include MTV, NBC, Paramount and Universal Home Entertainment. Like the Apple Inc. iPad, the Galaxy Tab is designed as a vehicle to view content via a Media Hub.

Samsung, which unveiled the Tab at a press conference in New York City, did not release pricing details of the content but said it would be "competitive."

Samsung also built software that helps optimize the use of a larger tablet format. Some applications, for example, can be viewed in a split screen.

Rahman's CWG theme song is more peppier now

Finally, the Common Wealth Games theme song 'oh yaaro, yeh India bula liya' has reached to its expectations. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi has shortened and tightened the lyrics giving a peppy touch to the A. R. Rahman composition. The lyricist explained that Rahman always tries to improve his work and he has done the same to the theme song also. He says that Rahman has added more layers to the song and has given some folk touch to the number.”


The previous composition of A. R. Rahman failed to impress the sports lovers in India. The song faced a lot of criticism than appreciations. The sports minister M.S. Gill reveled the dissatisfaction of the Group Of Ministers for the theme song.


The music maestro A. R. Rahman unveiled the theme song on September 11. The song is both composed and sung by the Rahman. It took six months for Rahman to complete the number and he is paid Rs. 5 crores his composition.

But the launch of the song got postponed to the month of October because the GoM wanted Rahman to modify his composition by making it more peppy. We just hope that Rahman's improved version of the Common Wealth Theme song impresses the sports lovers in India.

The video of the revised CWG theme song will release within a week. The video will feature sports stars and India achievement in sports.

Salman Khan's life inspires Tamil producer's next movie

Gauging a strong fan following for Salman Khan in the south, producer B.K. Krishnan of BRK films is set to make a movie inspired by the ups-and-downs of the life and loves of the Bollywood superstar. The film is tentatively titled "Anna Salman" or "Brother Salman", but the producer is yet to zero
in on an actor to play Salman.

"I am still looking for a hero to play Salman's role. The film is not based on Sallu bhai's life, it is only vaguely inspired by it. We all love Salman Khan and his movies. When I read the script, I immediately decided to do the movie," Krishnan said in a statement.

Sources said that the script has similar incidents like the Bandra bakery accident and the Black Buck poaching case. However, the hero is shown as a good character, who lands up at a wrong place at the wrong time and messes up his life.

The film would also show that the hero also has a torrid relationship with a young actress - an apparent reference to Salman Khan's troubled past relationship with Aishwarya Rai, to be played out by Rittu Sachdev.

"Out and out, the film is a comedy and the hero comes out of his troubles triumphant and much loved by everyone, in spite of the initial bad phase," said Krishnan.

Lashkar 'infected' by Al-Qaida, says US expert

Washington: Pakistan-based LeT is acting in a more Al-Qaida-like manner after being "infected" by ideas of Osama bin Laden's terror network and poses the highest risk to the US, according to a top American counter-terrorism expert.

"Al Qaida has infected other groups in South Asia with its ideas. Pakistani Taliban sent, as you know, a bomber to Times Square (in New York). Lashkar-e-Taiba is acting in a more Al-Qaida-like manner," Peter Bergen, the Counter-terrorism Strategy Initiative Co-Director at New America Foundation, said.

He stated this during his testimony before the House Homeland and Security Committee, which organized a hearing on the evolving nature of terrorism, nine years after 9/11.

Of all the major terrorists groups in the region, Bergen said, LeT poses the highest threat to the US.

"Lashkar-e-Taiba, I think, is really probably the more important of all of these because it's the largest group. It attracts educated people," he said in response to a question. "You know, the attack in Mumbai demonstrated that they were willing to hunt down Americans and Jews in the Nariman House and that they've adopted Al-Qaida's ideology. And so I think that is quite worrisome," he said.

"The Pakistani Taliban, a real canary in the mine, which people didn't look at, was the fact that the Pakistani Taliban sent suicide bombers to Barcelona in January of '08, which should have demonstrated that these guys were willing to do attacks on the West. And Spanish prosecutors say the Pakistani Taliban were behind it," he said.

The Pakistani Taliban had admitted their role, he said, adding that luckily, the attack did not succeed.

"So Times Square was not an aberration. It was part of a pattern. So, you know, I think the Times Square incident speaks for itself," he said.

Air services to Kashmir Valley resume

SRINAGAR: Flights to and from Srinagar resumed today after remaining suspended for three days as the international airport here was handed over to civil aviation authorities following completion of runway resurfacing work.

"The air traffic has resumed today and flights are landing almost as per schedule," officials of the Airport Authority of India said.

In view of the strict curfew being implemented here, authorities have directed security forces to treat the air tickets as curfew passes for passengers flying in and out of the Valley.

To ensure hassle-free travel for the passengers, the authorities had asked them to report to Tourist Reception Centre ( TRC) in the city and not to head to the airport directly.

The Srinagar airport was closed for resurfacing, repair and upgradation on September three and subsequently the air traffic was diverted to Awantipora airbase, 32km from here.

However, the government suspended the air operations for three days from the airbase beginning Tuesday following complaints that airlines were cancelling flights randomly without intimating the passengers.

Airlines officials had cited the prevailing law and order situation in the Valley as the reason for flight cancellations.

The repair and upgradation of Srinagar International Airport were earlier slated to be taken up in May but rescheduled due to the summer tourist season, an official spokesman said, adding accordingly, it was decided to take up the work only from September three.

He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had taken up the matter with Defence Minister A K Antony and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel for operationalising Awantipora airbase from September three so that the people did not face any kind of inconvenience during the holy month of Ramzan and the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.

Ayodhya verdict: Muslim, Hindu leaders appeal for peace

With the date of pronouncement of the Allahabad High Court judgement on Ayodhya dispute drawing near, religious leaders and scholars of both the communities have appealed for peace and communal harmony.

Leading Muslim religious leaders, including Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, naib imam of Idgah and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahli besides Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband have asked Muslims to respect the verdict of the court and maintain communal harmony.

“Peace is of prime importance and we have made the Muslims aware of it at every level in discourses and appeals that communal harmony should be maintained, so as to check vested interests from taking advantage of the situation,” Firangimahli told PTI.

Kalbe Jawwad asked community members to be weary of political leaders who would try to take advantage of the situation to serve their ulterior motives.

Darul Uloom Deoband had yesterday appealed to the people to respect the verdict of the court and maintain peace and communal harmony in the country.

The main pujari of the Ram Janmbhoomi temple in Ayodhya, Acharya Satyendra Das Mahraj and Mahant of Janki Ghat in Ayodhya, Janmey Sharan have also asked the community to remain calm and accept the verdict of the court.

Satyendra Das, appointed main pujari by the court, had also taken part in the roza iftar function recently to strengthen communal amity.

“In case the verdict is against the aspirations of any individual or party in the case, he is free to approach the Supreme Court,” Firangimahli said, adding there should not be any reaction to it in society or on streets.

Arbaaz KHAN proud of his Malaika Arora Khan's item number in Dabangg

Has Dabangg been over-publicised? Salman Khan has been going all-out to promote the film like never before.

However, Salman's brother Arbaaz who produces the film disagrees. "I think Salman has publicised Dabangg as much as his last film Veer. It's just that the media got interested in Dabangg and splashed stories on it. We didn't ask for it."

Arbaaz Khan can't stop preening about his wife Malaika Arora Khan's triumphant item song in Dabangg. "I'm so glad my wife's song Munni badnaam hui is as big as Kajra re and Beedi jalai le," says Arbaaz, barely able to keep the pride out of his voice as the song climbs up the charts.
"Honestly I am not going to say I am taken aback by the success of Munni badnaam hui. We had designed it to be a blockbuster item song," he said.
Dabangg is the family film for the Khans. "My sister (Alvira) has done the clothes. My brother Sohail has helped me with the production and my wife is the co-producer. It's a product from the Khan family. And we're very proud of it."
Arbaaz is very confident of Dabangg. "It could be the biggest hit of the year. Or it could be the one of the biggest hits of all time. Who knows?," he hoped.
