Ugadi:New Year Wishes

An occasion called Gudi Padwa signifies a new year with the emergence of spring season. This season is known with different names in different places.

In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh this is celebrated as Ugadi. According to mythological beliefs this is the auspicious day in which Lord Brahma created the universe from the beginning. This day is considered to be the best time to start anything new.

Gudi Padwa is a day which is dedicated to Lord Brahma’s worship. Maharashtrians celebrate this day by raising some flags called ‘Brahmadhvaj’ or ‘gudis’ in the praise of Lord Brahma. The Gudi is considered to be a good luck bringer to the households.

People wear new clothes and clean their households. Everything is started afresh in this day. People decorate houses with rangoli and mango leaves which are signs of purity and prosperity.
