Facebook to Start First India Center in Hyderabad

March 15 (Bloomberg) -- Facebook Inc., the owner of the largest social networking site, plans to set up its first Indian center at Hyderabad to support its growing global operations.
“Having multiple support centers in a variety of time zones provides Facebook users and advertisers around the world with round-the-clock, multilingual support,” the Palo Alto, California-based company said in an e-mailed statement today.
Facebook, which was valued at $11.5 billion in a new index created by SharesPost Inc. and counts Russia’s Digital Sky Technologies and Microsoft Corp. among its investors, has expanded to more than 400 million active users across the world. The company last week said it would set up a facility in Austin, Texas, to add to centers in California and Dublin, Ireland.
The networking site said it has more than 8 million users in India, who use Facebook to stay in touch with friends and family based both in the country and overseas.
Facebook joins global companies including Microsoft and Google Inc. that have centers in Hyderabad, southern India.
The new center will “tap into the region’s strong pool of talented people who understand operations and technology, and help us more effectively serve the needs of our users, advertisers and developers,” Don Faul, director of global online operations at Facebook, said in the statement.
