Two more dead in firing, Valley burns

Two civilians were killed after the J-K Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on protestors on Saturday, taking the death toll to six since Friday. The death toll in police and CRPF firing in past two months has risen to 24.

Mudasir Ahmad Mir (17) was killed when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel opened fire on protestors at Naidkhai village in Bandipore district while Javeed Ahmad Teli (20) died in the firing at Cement Bridge in Baramulla. Six persons were also wounded in the Bandipore firing.

The fresh killings have sparked a series of protests across Kashmir and more than 40 protestors have been wounded in police and CRPF firing in different parts of the Valley. Angry protestors torched a police camp, a railway station, three Army and police vehicles and a fire service vehicle. Even as the J-K government had imposed curfew in most parts of Kashmir valley, people defied the security restrictions and took to the streets. In Srinagar, hundreds of people took to the streets in the Natipora, Channapora and Rambagh neighbourhoods. Protests also erupted at Ganderbal and Palhalan. Protests also erupted at Achabal, Kaimoh, Dooru, Kulgam, Tral and Qazigund in south Kashmir. Protesters at Delina village in north Kashmir blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway.
