Scarlett Keeling murder: Police found body on beach

An Indian policeman has described the discovering the body of a Devon teenager lying face-down and almost naked on a tourist beach.

Pc Vishant Chopdekar, 27, was giving evidence in the trial of two men accused of killing 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling in Goa.

His account backs up that of his colleague Constable Gurunath Naik, who gave evidence on Monday.

Samson D'Souza, 30, and Placido Carvalho, 42, deny culpable homicide.

They are also accused of grievous sexual assault and destroying evidence.

Pc Chopdekar told Panaji Children's Court: "We found a body lying on its stomach. The body was naked except for a bra, which was near its neck."

Miss Keeling, from Bideford, had been on holiday in Goa when she was found dead on Anjuna beach.

She had been left in the care of a tour guide while the rest of her family went travelling.

Police originally said her death was an accidental drowning, but a second post mortem examination revealed she had a number of bruises on her body and had been raped.

The trial is expected to continue until the end of the year.
